  • VILLAGE BASED DESALINATION PLANTS INSTALLED IN FARYAB PROVINCE        For the first time in Afghanistan, NCA in may 2008, installed 5 relatively small, community based desalination plants in 5 villages in Qaramqol and Andhoy districts of Faryab Province. The technology is developed by the Central salt and Marine Chemical Research Institute, Gujarat and the Barefoot College, Tilonia, India. The plants are producing 600-1400l potable water per hour from saline water. The purpose is to provide safe drinking water in areas with serious salinity problems. The plants can be operated, repaired and operated by the communities itself. The results were appreciated by the local communities and the local authorities.
